New Centerpiece Home Builder Takes Attendees Back in Time
Davis Homes delivers a rustic home inspired by the Arts & Crafts Movement
When Home Show attendees see this year’s Centerpiece Home, they’ll think they’ve traveled back in time. A Prairie-style home modeled after the Arts & Crafts Movement (1880-1920), it has a rustic, handcrafted look that will make attendees feel warm and cozy when they come in from the cold.

Built entirely inside Exposition Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, this year’s Centerpiece Home was constructed by new Centerpiece Home builder Davis Homes. Davis Homes is a local, family-owned builder currently building On Your Lot Custom Homes throughout Central Indiana as well as building new homes in numerous custom communities in and surrounding Marion County.

With the Centerpiece Home, Davis Homes will showcase its Camden floor plan with a Modern Craftsman elevation. The two-story, 3,909-square-foot home features an open gourmet-style kitchen that flows into a great room with exposed wood beam ceilings displaying the home’s craftsmanship.

Like every Centerpiece Home, this one is designed with families in mind. It includes three bedrooms and 2½ baths, an entertainment area, spacious master suite with cozy sitting area, three-car garage, laundry room with dog wash station and lounge and a Jack and Jill bathroom for the kids’ rooms upstairs.

“We believe building your new home should be easy and affordable,” said Davis Homes President and CEO Brad Davis. “We feel honored to be building the 2019 Centerpiece Home. This opportunity allows Davis Homes to demonstrate the vibrant living spaces and dramatic home exteriors available to today’s discerning home buyer.” Collaborating with Calvin Landscape of Indianapolis and Luxe Home Interiors, Davis Homes delivers a house that is not only a practical, family-friendly piece of property but an elegant work of art.

“The whole builder team has put a lot of hard work and thought into the planning and production of the Centerpiece Home,” Indianapolis Home Show Manager Laura Groninger said. “From research into the Arts & Crafts Movement down to the selection of unique materials and colors to differentiate and inspire, this home is both useful and beautiful.”

The Centerpiece Home is located in Exposition Hall at the 2019 Indianapolis Home Show.

Luxe Home Interiors Creates a Rustic Feel in Centerpiece Home

Designer draws from Arts & Crafts Movement for warm atmosphere

Shelby Rouse of Luxe Home Interiors gives attendees a glimpse into the past with the interior of this year’s Centerpiece Home, modeling the design after architecture of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Luxe Home Interiors is a locally-owned, full-service furniture showroom and interior design boutique specializing in interior design, custom furniture, rugs, art and window treatments. In addition to the boutique’s bevy of resources, Rouse drew from history for the design of the Centerpiece Home.

“My inspiration for this home was the Arts & Crafts Movement, which is focused on the combination of hand-crafted tradition and modern design,” Rouse said. “Wood beams and joints of the home are deliberately exposed so Home Show attendees can see how things are crafted and built throughout the Centerpiece Home.”

The ceiling beams mimic the look of a medieval hall while features like the inglenook — a lounge adjoining the fireplace — mirror amenities common in 19th century homes.

The interior colors match those of the countryside. “Soothing hues of the landscape, including muted greens, browns and deep golds, are used, accented by flower window boxes, giving a warm and textural feel,” Rouse said.

In addition to these rich earth tones throughout the house, the frieze — a horizontal band of sculpted or painted decoration, especially on a wall near the ceiling — on the living room and master bedroom walls is adorned with nature-themed wallpaper, immersing Home Show attendees in rural life. The nature theme continues in the kitchen, as the cabinets are stained in a rustic birch color, and the backsplash resembles river stones.

The sprawling Prairie-style home also features a breakfast nook, coffee bar, upstairs study and a loft area that serves as a kids’ play room or a place for their parents to hang out and enjoy cocktails with friends. From the calming colors to the inviting, family-friendly atmosphere, the interior design of the Centerpiece Home makes it a warm place to visit this winter.

Calvin Landscape Creates Colorful Backyard Retreat

Centerpiece Home backyard boasts bright, family-friendly atmosphere

Calvin Landscape is back on Centerpiece Home duty this year, constructing a colorful backyard retreat that will offer fun for the whole family.

“Home Show visitors are going to see a ton of color with a bright, fun landscaping feel for this year’s Centerpiece Home,” said owner Jim Calvin. “As people move from inside the home to the outside patio area, they’ll step into a backyard retreat complete with a firepit, island bar and, of course, a pool.”

New Centerpiece Home builder Davis Homes is building its Camden floor plan with a Modern Craftsman elevation directly inside Exposition Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The Centerpiece Home features two stories, three bedrooms, 2½ baths and 3,909 square feet of living space.

When visitors approach the front of the home, they’ll stroll through an illuminated walkway adorned with natural boulders. After they tour the home, they’ll step out into a multi-use backyard entertainment area overflowing with a lush mixture of deciduous and evergreen landscaping. Vinyl fencing on three sides keeps the space bright.

Of course, the focal point of the backyard is the custom liner pool. It sports steps, a suntan ledge and a ladder as well as numerous fountains and bubblers. This winter, Home Show attendees will feel as though they’re in a summer water park.

A bar height table overlooks the deep end of the pool, and behind this table is a custom grilling area covered by a unique cedar pergola. “The grill island has all of the features any outdoor grilling chef would need,” Calvin said. “Seat walls and ample space for patio furniture bring warmth underneath the pergola as well.”

The backyard is the ultimate family space, providing as much warmth and comfort as the inside of the Centerpiece Home. “Jim Calvin and his team have a knack for creating outdoor areas that perfectly complement indoor living spaces,” Indianapolis Home Show Manager Laura Groninger said. “This year’s landscape design is a feast for the eyes that will attract attendees of all ages.”
